​Philadelphia has never had a shortage of artists with something to say. For rising artist YAYA, the journey is about more than simply making music—it’s about building relationships, spreading positive energy, and creating opportunities one move at a time.

With roots in West Philly and North Philly, YAYA represents a different side of the city’s independent music scene. As a mother, artist, and woman determined to build something of her own, she’s balancing real-life responsibilities while continuing to push her music forward.

Her sound and message are centered around uplifting people and bringing good energy, giving listeners something positive while still representing where she comes from.

During her conversation with Kuzzo on Tappin In With Kuzzo, YAYA spoke about one of the biggest debates among independent artists right now:

Are artist showcases still worth it?

While some artists believe showcases have become a waste of money, YAYA sees value in them. For her, performing isn’t only about getting on stage—it’s an opportunity to network, meet new people, make connections, and continue getting her name in different rooms.

That perspective is important for an artist still building her foundation. Every showcase may not lead to a record deal or a viral moment, but the right connection could eventually lead to the next opportunity.

YAYA is also realistic about the business side of music. When asked about potentially signing a record deal, she made it clear that she isn’t against it.

The deal just has to make sense.

Rather than chasing a contract simply to say she’s signed, YAYA is open to an opportunity if the situation is worth it and helps move her career forward.

Right now, she’s continuing to release music, perform, network, and develop her name throughout Philadelphia’s independent scene.

There may not be a massive industry machine behind YAYA yet—and that’s what makes this part of the story interesting.

This is the come-up.

The showcases, the networking, the music, the responsibilities of motherhood, and the decisions being made now are all part of building something bigger.

Only time will tell where the journey takes her, but YAYA is continuing to show up, spread good energy, and bet on herself.
